Cedar Rapids Gazette [Iowa] Thursday June 1, 1939
Charles Freeman Dunn, 91, a veteran of the Civil war and a former resident of Cedar Rapids, died at his home near South Omaha Wednesday. He had resided in Cedar Rapids for 40 years and left here for Nebraska in 1931. At the age of 15 he enlisted in the Union army and served with the Ninth Iowa cavalry. He was a member of the G.A.R. post of Cedar Rapids and was a member of Crescent lodge A.F. and A.M. here for 50 years. Local relatives include two half-brothers, A.J. and Frank Smith and a half-sister, Mrs. Kate Fritz. Funeral services will be held in Omaha Saturday with burial at Papillion, Neb.
