Theodore J. "Ted" Shady, 76, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, August 31, 2018, at his home in Maquoketa.

A celebration of Ted's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Monmouth, Iowa Cemetery with military honors.

Theodore John Shady was born on February 10, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Jesse Neville and Helen Elaine (Johnson) Shady. He was a graduate of Monmouth High School and then served his country receiving an honorable discharge. He married Genevieve Alice Maples on August 29, 1960 in Monmouth, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2009.

Upon returning from his military service, Ted worked as a farmhand and then drove truck for Kapraun Transport for several years as well as teaching at a truck driving school. He retired from J.T. Cullens in Fulton, Illinois where he had worked as a machinist.

Ted was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and hunting.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ted (Karla) Shady, Jr. of Booneville, MO, Tammy (Cherokee) Dascher of Maquoketa, IA, Tod Shady of Maquoketa, IA, Terry (Kathy) Shady of Holly, MI, Teresa Barnhart of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Tricia (Steven) Randecker of Savanna, IL; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother Harry (Audra) Shady of Otter Creek, IA; a sister, Elaine Watters of New Orleans, LA; sisters-in-law, Georgia Shady of Maquoketa, IA, and Kathy Shady of Maquoketa, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Timothy Scott Shady, brothers James, Jesse and Earl "Butch" Shady, son-in-law Mark Barnhart, brother-in-law Louie Watters, and a sister-in-law JoAnn Shady.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County.
