Lucas Charles Montgomery, 20 of Cedar Rapids, transcended on Sunday July 22, 2018 at the Unity Point Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital, leaving his spiritual strength amongst his family to continue his fight for a cure. After a courageous battle with Sanfilippo syndrome and a legacy that brought awareness to the syndrome, he taught everyone lessons in strength, positivity and ability to “Be Unbelievable.” Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church by Pastor Craig Brown. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.

Lucas is survived by his parents Lew and Stacey; his sisters, Mariah, Chelsey and Hailee, all of Cedar Rapids; his grandmothers, Norma Montgomery of Waterloo and Grace Harris of Fort Madison; his nieces Serenity Montgomery, Faith Dunlap and Luna Dunlap; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Willie Montgomery and Charles Harris; uncles, Steven Beecham and Aaron Beecham; and aunt Johanna Beecham Williams.

Lucas was born on July 31, 1997 in Iowa City, son of Lew and Stacey Harris Montgomery. He graduated from College Community Prairie High School in 2017.

Lucas brought awareness to his syndrome, always smiling and inspiring others to be courageous, positive, and strong, and to fight for what they believed in. He had a tremendous amount of love for his family and made sure his family felt as strong as he was. Lucas will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
