HORSEHOERS’ RANKS INVADED BY GRIM REAPER

President Jas. D. Shannon Dies After Short Illness

Once more death has invaded our ranks and by so doing has brought deep sorrow to the hearts of every member of our union. On Tuesday at his home at 310 G avenue west, following a brief illness, occurred the death of our beloved and worthy president, James David Shannon, aged 52 years had he lived until June 29.

The sudden passing of Bro. Shannon was a great shock to our entire membership as each and every on looked upon him as a personal friend. Sincere in his devotion to all the better things in life and brave enough to ever voice his belief in the program for the betterment of humanity and the man who tolls for a daily wage, his death will prove a great loss to our organization and the community.

He was born in Winterset, Iowa and is survived by his devoted wife, eleven children, three brothers and two sisters. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 from the Beatty chapel, the Rev. Ira D. Edwards officiating. Interment was had at Linwood. All shops in the city were closed and the entire membership attended in a body.

The mortuary benefit due from the local was paid to the beneficiaries the day after death and was greatly appreciated. Thus again is demonstrated one of the practical benefits of trades unionism.
