The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette and Republican Marion News Tuesday January 24, 1928
Cornelius Bunting, Old Resident, Dies At Age Of 77 Years
Cornelius Buntin, 77, died of heart trouble Monday at 5:30 p.m., at the Marion sanatorium, where he had been taken Monday noon, following a brief illness. He had for several years made his home in the Ed Taylor home in Seventh avenue.
The youngest of ten children, he was born to John and Mary Edwards Bunting, Jan. 18, 1851, at Zanesville, Ohio. He came west with his parents, in 1857, and spent his childhood on the place known as the Frank Webb farm, near Marion. The old homestead still stands. Mr. Bunting was married Dec. 20, 1876 to Myra Benham, of Marion, who died in 1919. When ill health necessitated his giving up farming, he moved to Marion, and was in the wood and coal business, later engaging in the hardware business, under the firm name of Williams and Bunting.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Reiter, Cedar Rapids, one sister, Mrs. Sophie Webb, Marion, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Pingrey chapel. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
