Mrs. Mary Irving Of Mayflower Ancestry Dies At Home Here
Mrs. Mary Frances Irving, a resident of Cedar Rapids for thirty years, died at her home, 1610 Park avenue, at 2:30 p.m. Monday. She had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Irving, whose maiden name was Mary Frances Thompson, was born in Boston, Mass. Dec. 20, 1861, of old Puritan ancestors. She was a direct descendant of William and Mary White, who sailed on the Mayflower and landed on the coast of Massachusetts bay in December, 1620. She was married to Allen Grant Irving, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Irving read widely and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are a daughter, Harriett, and a nephew, John G. Irving of Cedar Rapids; a son, Dr. Robert B. Irving, of Cuba; a brother, Col. Robert Thompson of New York, and a niece, Mrs. Andrew McKay, of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held in the Beatty chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday conducted by the Rev. Robert McCune. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
