The Marion Sentinel Thursday June 25, 1908
--The funeral of Joseph H. Howe occurred last Friday forenoon at the Christian Church, his remains having arrived in Marion that morning from Leavenworth, Kansas, where he died on Monday, June 15, in the National Soldiers' Home. His body was accompanied by his sister, Mrs. E.D. Wilson, of Walker, Iowa. Joseph H. Howe was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, in 1840, and came with his parents to Marion, when he was eight years of age. This place has always been his home except while in the army and for two years in Marshalltown Home and about that at Leavenworth. He enlisted in Company I of the 16th Iowa infantry and served throughout the war and was mustered out on the 19th of July, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
