Death of Anthony Shumack, Sr.
The death of Anthony Shumack, Sr., occurred at his late home in Marion last Sunday morning, aged almost 71 years. HE was the father of V.G. Shumak, the grocer; F.A. Shumack, of the White & Shumack Co.; Anthony Shumack, for a great many years a clerk in B.F. Mentzer's grocery store; and Mrs. P.I. Krall. He was an honest and industrious citizen and during his residence of over 30 years in Marion he was respected by his neighbors and friends. The funeral service was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P.I. Krall at 10:30 Tuesday morning. Rev. N. Pye, pastor of the Methodist church, having charge. A quartette composed of Mrs. F.H. Hilliard, Mrs. Otto Milligan, Messrs. E.J. Esgate and John Booth furnished appropriate music. The deceased was born May 16, 1830, near Prague, Austria, where he grew to manhood. He was a graduate from the medical department of the Prague university. He removed with his family to the United States in 1860, locating in Cedar Rapids and removing to Marion in 1867, where he has since resided.
