STROKE PARALYSIS FATAL TO A.J. KEYES
--------------------------------------
Death Comes Tuesday Morning At His Home on Boulevard
A.J. Keyes, the veteran traveling salesman and pioneer resident of Marion, who was stricken with paralysis a week ago while sitting in his chair at his home on the boulevard, passed away Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed pending word from the daughter in California.
The deceased was born on the Price farm just northeast of town on Jan. 20, 1847, and is survived by only one member of a family of nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Helen Giffen, of Chicago.
On Spt. 5, 1876 he married Stella L. Chapin, one daughter, Mrs. Frank Stoner, of Los Angeles, Calif., surviving this union. Later Mr. Keyes was married to Harriet Keyes, to whom one son, Ralph, was born. He died soon after finishing school here. The wife survives.
Entering business at the age of 16 he was for a long time a member of the firm of Keyes & Parkhurst. Afterwards he took up the work of a traveling salesman and for many years was with the Witwer Bros. Co. and the Western Grocer Co.
His death, while not unexpected, brings sorrow to a large circle of close, personal friends.
