Rufus Sisler, 92, went to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 1997, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.

He was born the son of Thomas and Isabelle Falconer Sisler on May 30, 1904.

He lived in the Coggon area all of his life, graduating from Coggon High School in 1921. Mr. Sisler was a senior in high school when the town banker approached him and offered him a job at the bank. He accepted the offer and has been in banking ever since.

He founded the Linn County State Bank in Coggon on Sept. 15, 1945, located in the same building in which the Coggon State Bank was started in 1888. He was still an officer of the bank at the time of his death.

He was active in the community, serving as mayor of Coggon for two terms, served on the city council, was a member and president of the school board, was instrumental in bringing the FFA to the Coggon High School and active in his church.

On June 10, 1931, he married Frieda Zumbach at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. They were the parents of three children, Darlene, Serge and Delores.

Mr. Sisler was greatly loved and respected by his family and friends and leaves a legacy of helping others.

He is survived by his children, Darlene Cooper and husband Joe of Ankeny, Serge and wife Paula of Coggon and Delores "Dee" McDonough and husband John of Marion; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda; his parents; a twin sister; and three stepbrothers.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan, of which he was a member. The Rev. Jeff Reutten will officiate. The body will be viewed at his residence, 202 Third St. South, Coggon, Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Organist: Sylvia McMullen. Vocalist: Doug McMullen. Bearers: Ervin, Myron, Elmer, LaVern, Earl, Albert Jr. and Roger Zumbach. Honorary Bearers: Richard Hon, Junior Emerson and Dorrance Emerson. Private inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, on Friday, Jan. 31, 1997. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home, Central City.
