James Leslie Coombes, 93, of 657 Sixth avenue, Marion, a civil engineer before his retirement, died Monday following a sudden illness. Born Sept. 25, 1875, in Cedar Rapids, he was married here to Irene A. Good, March 15, 1923, and lived in Cedar Rapids for many years.
Mr. Coombes had been associated with the T.R. Warriner Co. and later was with the New York Central, Milwaukee and the North Western railroads, doing evaluation work.
Mr. Coombes was a member of the Iowa State Historical Society. His wife is the only immediate survivor.
Memorial services: Turner chapel east, Cedar Rapids, 3 p.m. Thursday conducted by the Rev. Walter Kellison of the People church. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the Turner chapel east until 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The casket will not be opened after the service.
