Obituary of Mrs. Christina[sic] Strong.
The funeral of Mrs. Christina Strong, wife of Henry G. Strong, of Kenwood Park, was held from the residence Saturday, Rev. C.W. Cleveland officiating, and interment was made in the family lot at Marion.
Christina Lutz was the oldest daughter of Barnst and Ann Lutz and was born Dec. 30, 1830, in the Linn Grove neighborhood. Her parents were among the earliest settlers of this part of Iowa, locating here in the early part of 1829. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having been converted to that faith in the year 1856 and continued to be an ardent and faithful member of that denomination.
On Feb. 6, 1860, she was united in marriage to Henry G. Strong and lacking but three days had for half a century been a consistent and conscientious helpmate to him, being summoned to the great beyond on Feb. 3.
Four children were born to this union, three of whom, besides her husband, survive her: Mrs. Alice Jones of Kenwood Park; Mrs. Carrie Drury of this city, and George A. Strong of Marion; Charles E. Strong preceding her to the last call six years ago.
Other relatives remaining to mourn her loss are two brother and three sisters: George W. Lutz of Kenwood Park, and John E. Lutz of Blair, Neb.; Mrs. Carrie Wayt of Warrensburg, Mo.; Mrs. Jane Cooper of Correctionville, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Smith of Sigourney, Mrs. Kate Wilcox of Kenwood Park is an adopted sister. She also leaves a large number of more distant relatives and a host of friends.
The life of Mrs. Strong was one of Christian devotion and she won the closest respect of all who became acquainted with her by her cheerful and sunny disposition, even to the children who loved her and frequently inquired about her condition. Her Bible was much used and was the inspiration for her noble life. She had many of the chapters marked at scripture teachings that appealed to her, her favorite verse being Psalm 17:15 and it was this verse that Rev. Cleveland chose for the text of his sermon at the funeral.
