ELMER C. MARCHANT.
Elmer C. Marchant was born in Fayette county, Ohio, on the 21st day of August in 1862. He was the fourth child in a family of seven, and the first one of the children to die. His father lives in Leesburg, Ohio, near the old homestead. His mother died on the 10th of September in 1872.
His brother George is the only member of the family residing in Marion and was with him at the time of his death.
In South Dakota on the 29th of October 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Cline[sic]. To their union seven children were born 5 sons and 2 daughters. Of these four sons survive, Leo, Curtis, Marle and Terrell Calven[sic].
He left South Dakota in February on 1891 and came to Marion, which place has been his residence since then. After much suffering, borne patiently he fell asleep on the morning of the 26th of February 1908. After a life of 43 years 6 months and 5 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and four sons, father, four brothers and two sisters, besides other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cline[sic], Friday afternoon at two o'clock and were conducted by the Rev. Starr, pastor of the Christian church. A quartette composed of Mrs. V.G. Shumack, Mrs. S.N. Parsons, James E. Bromwell and Earl Buzza furnished appropriate music.
At the close of the services at the house the Knights of Pythias of which deceased was a member took charge and held the regular ritualistic services at the grave.
