James A. Lathrop Drowned.
James A. Lathrop, an employe[sic] of the B., C.R. & N., aged 38 years, was accidentally drowned in the Cedar river above Cedar Rapids, at about 10 o'clock Saturday evening. In attempting to swim across a small bayou for the purpose of carrying one end of a fish net, he was seized with cramps and sank, never to reappear.
Mr. Lathrop was the son of Mr. and Mrs. V.A. Lathrop and brother of Harry and Minnie Lathrop, of this city. The deceased was born and raised in Marion and had many friends in this city who extend their sympathies to the bereaved. He leaves a wife but no children. The funeral services were held at the home of the parents, adjoining the city on the southeast, Tuesday morning, interment taking place in the city cemetery. Elmer E. Lathrop, another brother, formerly of Marion, but now of Marshalltown, attended the funeral services, returning home the same day.
