MRS. M.H. KNAPP DIES SUDDENLY

Passed Away Yesterday After a Few Hours Illness
After an illness of less than five hours' duration, Mrs. M.H. Knapp passed quietly away Wednesday at 1 P.M. at the home of her brother, J.A. Hollenbeck, with whom she has made her home the past four years.
Mrs. Knapp celebrated her 82nd birthday anniversary December 22nd, and has enjoyed the best of health, being unusually vigorous for her age. She was in her usual good health at breakfast, and after the meal assisted with the morning work. She was taken sick about 8 o'clock and sank rapidly until the end came shortly afternoon.
Mrs. Knapp was the first white child born in Macon County, Il, being born December 22, 1835, at Decatur, Ill. She was one of a family of 14, of whom but two survive: a sister, Mrs. L.S. Smith of Chicago, and her brother, James Hollenbeck of this city. She was married at Freeport, Ill., to E.F. Knapp who passed away 16 years ago at the age of 70 years. No children were born to their union, but she has raised a nephew and a grand-nephew.
Previous to her coming to Marion four years ago, Mrs. Knapp lived at Seattle, Was., Chicago, and Mitchell, S.D. for a period of 15 years. Before that time, she was a resident of Marion for 12 years.
She was was[sic] a devoted and consistent christian, her life revealing the beauty and depth of her belief. She was a member of the Methodist church and a regular attendant at its services. She took keen delight in the study of the Bible and in the reading of religious books.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the home with Rev. A.H. Hanscom in charge. Burial will be made in Oak Shade cemetery.
