Barbara Maye Valentine, 77, of McAulley Terrace Apartments, Johnston, died Friday in Mercy Medical Center at Des Moines of lung cancer. Shew as a former Cedar Rapids resident who moved to Johnston in 1985.
Born July 26, 1912, at Mount Auburn, she married William Valentine Jan. 30, 1931, at Vinton. He died in 1983. Mrs. Valentine was co-founder of Sunshine Sun-Mart Food Stores in 1937, which was later sold to Nash-Finch Company. She was a member of Eastern Star and PEO, and Kenwood Park Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jon of Des Moines; a daughter Beverly McClintock of Des Moines; a sister, Geraldine Harmer of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: Noon Monday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Warren Jensen of Des Moines. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery....
