The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette Marion News
Monday October 23, 1911
Obituary of Susanna Trott.
Susanna Nicodemus was born in Bedford Co. Pa., Jan. 22, 1829, and died in her home in Marion, Oct. 20th[sic], 1911, being 82 years, 8 months and 28 days old. She became a Christian at the age of fifteen, and united with the Lutheran church. She was married to Mrs. Benjamin Trott Aug. 5th, 1851. Her husband was a volunteer soldier who gave his service to his country. He died June 30, 1865.
Mrs. Trott moved with her family to Marion, Iowa in July 1872, where she made her home. Her family consisted of six children, Mary Amanda, Anna Rebecca and Belle, deceased; Andrew David and Mrs. Christina Shorman, of Marion, and Mrs. Minerva Delilah Hepner, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; also her brother and sister, Joseph Nicodemus of Marion and Mrs. Maria Miller of Cumberland, Pa., and eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Trott united with the Methodist church soon after coming to Marion and was a consistent member and a faithful worker. She found great delight and help in the means of grace, and so long as she was able was always found in her place. She was a very kind-hearted woman, and for more than six years she took care of her widowed sister when she needed sympathy and help. She was one of those women who can see the humorous side of things, and those who knew her best can well remember her bright and witty sayings, and how she made a cheerful atmosphere for those about her. She was also a true and worthy mother, and struggled along with her little family after the death of her husband. She was greatly admired and appreciated by those who had any intimate acquaintance with her, and she lived and died in the Christian faith.
The funeral services were held in the home on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were conducted by her pastor, S.R. Beatty.
