The Marion Register Wednesday May 29, 1895
OBITUARY.
On Sunday morning, May 26, 1895, death took from his sufferings, John Emberson, one who for upwards of 40 years, has lived in and around Marion. Mr. Emberson was born in Eastern Norway, May 17th, 1829, and in 1852 he left his native land for the land of his adoption. He first settled in Wisconsin, after spending 4 years in that state he came to Iowa and too up his abode in Marion, where he followed his trade as a carpenter, and by his integrity and honesty gained for himself a good name among those for whom he worked. In the hour of his country's danger he joined the 6th Iowa Cavalry under Capt. John Logan. He was long a sufferer and knowing that his affliction was unto death, he was led to place all his trust in the Savior of sinners, and thus prepare for the change that awaited him.
A widow, two daughters and two sons, with three brothers are left behind but only for a time.
The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased, conducted by Rev. J. Lee and A.S. Marshall, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
