The Marion Register Wednesday January 20, 1869
GENEROUS.--Last Friday morning, after the accidental death of Mr. Horn, an account of which appears elsewhere, it became known that the family was in quite destitute circumstances, whereupon Marshall Parmenter and Jacob Heer started out to raise funds in the way of contributions from our citizens for the stricken and needy wife and children. During the day they raised, in this way, about $140.

KILLED.--Last Friday morning, Mr. Daniel Horn, an employee in the steam mill of Messrs. McAfee & Grant, of this city, was caught in the machinery, and before he could be rescued, was crushed to death.
Mr. Horn was a hard-working, honest man, respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the old 9th Iowa Infantry, and was a good soldier.
He leaves a wife and five children. His funeral was preached Saturday, at 10 1/2 o'clock a.m., in the Presbyterian church, by the Rev. A.S. Marshall.
