H. Grandle, 88, Pioneer, Died Last Monday

A pioneer resident of Linn county, Harvey Grandle, 88, died Monday morning at 9 o'clock at his home at 1401 Eleventh street. He suffered a stroke nine years ago and since then has been confined to a wheel chair. His last illness was of three months duration, having been confined to his bed.
For 70 years Mrs. Grandle was a resident of this county, being born in Ohio August 12, 1848. He came to Iowa when eighteen years of age and settled on a farm in this county. He married Susan Stearn in 1865 and to them were born three children, Mrs. May Roberts, Marion; Robert, who died in 1928 in South Dakota; Charles, at home, and Frank, in California. He remarried again following the death of his first wife, to Anna Humphrey in April, 1881 and to this union were born five children: Mrs. Pearl Crowley of Phillips, South Dakota; Guy Grandle of Pierre, South Dakota; Mrs. Maude Secrist, Marion; Mrs. Emma Salach[sic], Cedar Rapids, and Mrs Amelia Brooks, Marion.
Mr. Grandle was interested in the Methodist church activities and formerly attended the services of the Crab Apple church.
He is survived by his children, a step-son, Fred Bice, of Seattle; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the family home with the Rev. Dillman Smith of Des Moines officiating. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
