MRS WEIS DIES AT HER HOME NEAR MARION
----------------------------------------
Had Been Ill for Several Years
----------------------------------------
After a lingering illness of nearly three years duration, Mrs. H.J. Weis passed away early Sunday morning at the family home northeast of Marion. She has been confined to her bed almost continuously for the two years past, and recently suffered a broken hip, from which she was unable to rally, because of her weakened constitution.
Berta Rose Bear was born in Cedar Rapids, Oct. 5, 1862, being the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Bear. She was united in marriage Feb. 23, 1899 to Henry J. Weis of Marion, and since that time has made her home on their farm near the city.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four step children, George of Camp Dodge, Roy of Marion and Myrtle and Clemens at home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. E.S. Kulp and Miss Sophia Bear, both of Seville, Ohio; and two brothers, Seth and George of Harper, Kans.
When a girl she united with the United Brethern church at Cedar Rapids, after her marriage, becoming a member of Prairie Chapel, of which church she was a member at the time of her death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Marion Methodist church, with the Rev. S.P. VanHorn of Cedar Rapids officiating, assisted by the Rev. A.H. Hanscom. Interment was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
