Mary E. Taylor Dies In Boone; Services Here Sat.
Mary Elliott Taylor, a former Marion resident, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 29, at the Eastern Star home in Boone, where she had resided for the past eight years.
She was born October 1, 1858 at Marion, the daughter of William and Clarissa Sanders Winter. She graduated from the Marion high school with the class of 1879 and was married October 9, 1881 to Lester l. Elliott who passed away on January 8, 1890. On June 10, 1897 she was marred to R. Lee Taylor and he passed away on December 6, 1933.
She was a member of Ashley Chapter D.A.R., Cedar Rapids, a Past Matron of Marion Chapter No. 183, O.E.S>, a charter member of the Entre Nous club and a past president of the City Federation of Womens clubs. Several years ago she received recognition as a fifty year member of Eastern Star.
Surviving is a niece, Mrs. Myrtle Winter Yates of Vinton.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Murdoch Chapel by the Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Interment was in the family lot in Oak Shade cemetery.
