Obituary of Francis B. Stinger.
Frances[sic] B. Stinger was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, November 30, 1841, and died at his home in Marion, Iowa, May 12, 1915. He came to Iowa in 1849 and settled on a farm in Linn township of which he was in possession at the time of his death. He came to Marion in 1873. When he first came to Marion he entered the hotel business and later the house moving trade. He served the city for a term on the council where his opinion and judgment were respected in all matters for the up-building of the city. A little more than fifteen years ago he retired from activities of life and was planning for years of rest, when as the result of an accident he gradually lost the use of his limbs and power of speech. For fifteen years he had been a patient sufferer, and the last five years had been helpless. No word of complaint ever was known to have crossed his lips in all these years. He was united in marriage to Miss Harriet A. Rundall, March 17, 1867. To that union were given three children, Frederick J. of Elkader, Iowa, a son who died at the age of four and an only daughter, Edna Effie--Mrs. Eugene Parsons of Marion. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Marion VanSant, of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Adelaide Lacock , of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also had two brothers who gave their lives for our country in the time of the war. Mr. Stinger was a man of few words but a man most reliable and when needed was always to be depended upon. He was very careful in all his dealings and the kind of a man that now we can truthfully say was honest, true and firm for the right always. A man of few acquaintances, but those who knew him held him in the highest respect. The funeral service was held at the residence Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. C.F. Ensign of the Presbyterian church.
