G.A. Shumack Dies After Long Illness
G.A. Shumack, 1261 First avenue SE, proprietor of the Cross grocery for more than 12 years, died at his home at 8:45 a.m. Friday after a nine-weeks illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1891, at Marion and had lived in Linn county his entire life. For many years he operated a grocery in Marion, which previously was owned by his father, A.E. Shumack.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. C.W. Peterson; two nieces, Joyce and Dianne Peterson; and a nephew, Dean Peterson, all of Cedar Rapids. Mr. Shumack was a member of the Methodist church in Marion, Masonic Blue lodge and Patmos Commandery of Marion, El Kahir Shrine and the Elks club in Cedar Rapids. He was a graduate of Marion high school.
Funeral services will be held in the Turner chapel at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery at Marion. Friends may call at the chapel.
