Mrs. Nancy Secrist Dies at Home Sunday
Mrs. Nancy Ellen Secrist, 89, a life-long resident of Linn county, died at 3:40 am Sunday, July 27, at her home, 1096 Eleventh street, after a long illness.
She was born July 26, 1858, the daughter of Benjamin and Julia Matheny VanFossen. She was married to William P. Secrist at Marion, April 16, 1879. The family moved into town in September, 1907. Mr. Secrist died May 14, 1942. She was a member of the Marion Methodist Church. Funeral services were conducted from the Yocom chapl at 2 pm Tuesday with the Rev. James P. Gable in charge. Pallbearers were grandsons, Harold Secrist, Howard Beach, Paul Secrist, Albert Berry, Myron Berry and Ralph Beach. Burial was in the Oak Shade cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Susie M. Berry, Mrs. Bertha A Beach and Mrs. Ruby E. Hanscom, all of Marion; a son, J. Earl Secrist, Springville, 20 grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Julia B. Roberts and a son Carl O. Secrist, preceded her in death.
