Funeral Rites For J. Brown Here Tuesday

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church here, for John R. Brown, 51 years old, who died at a Cedar Rapids hospital at 8:15, Saturday morning. He had undergone an operation for a ruptured ulcer of the stomach five weeks before his death. He had undergone three more operations in the two weeks prior to his death.
Mr. Brown was born in Kenesaw, Nebr., the son of John B. and Rebecca Brown. The family moved to Marion when he was eight years old, and he had lived here ever since. For 28 years he was employed as a switchman on the Milwaukee railroad.
He was married to Miss Nettie Ryan, Oct. 22, 1928. Besides his widow, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Owen Turner and Lee Brown, of Marion and Marley Brown of Avery, Idaho, and Mrs. J.M. Case of Stratford, Calif. There are also many more distant relatives and a host of friends who admired his many fine traits.
He was a member of the Milwaukee Veterans' association, the Methodist church, F.T. Fox lodge, No. 319, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Marion lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M., Marion Chapter No. 10, R.A.M., Patmos Commandery No. 27, Knights Templar, and El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids
Rev. John M. Walters officiated at the funeral services, which were in charge of Marion lodge No. 6, A.F & A.M. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mrs. H.G. Stitzel, Mrs. Harry Snell, Dr. H.G. Stitzel and G.H. Clark sang "In the Garden" and "My Jesus As Thou Wilt." The pallbearers were A.E. Granger, R.J. Kendall, R.C. Seager, J.A. Beeson, H.C. Adams and ? E. Bragg.
