Robert Peter Burns, 1590 Seventh ave., Marion, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, July 16 at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of the Marion vicinity, he was born Mary 27, 1901, on a farm north of Marion, the son of George and Barbara Kohinke Burns. On Sept. 22, 1925, he was married at Mt. Vernon to Miss Helen L. Hardegen. For 40 years he was employed by the Quaker Oats Co. plant in Cedar Rapids and was supervisor of the Puff Goods Department at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Burns was a member of the First Methodist church of Marion Marion Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M. and of Osceola Lodge No. 18, I.O.O.F. Surviving are his wife, a son, Lee R. Burns, Marion, two grandchildren, Matthew Lee and Christopher Alan Burns, Marion, two brothers, Ivan G. Burns, Cedar Rapids, and Clifford W. Burns, Marion, and three sisters, Mrs. Merle (Nora) Busenbark and Mrs. Charles (Zola) Fikejs, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Fred (Etta) Thompson, Weiser, Idaho.
Services were conducted Tuesday at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Ralph E. Baker of the First Methodist church officiating. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery, Marion.
