Mrs. Susie McGowan Dead.
Mrs. Susie Elnora McGowan, 76, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Etzel. The daughter of Enos and Elizabeth Groves, she was born July 17, 1860, in Cedar Rapids. Practically all her life was spent in this vicinity, fifty years in Marion. She was married in 1875 to William Penn McGowan. Seven children survive: H.E. McGowan and A.E. McGowan of Marion, William McGowan of Perry, Mrs. Thomas Cherry, Mrs. A.T. Hanson, Mrs. C.M. Cunningham, Mrs. Frank Etzel, all of Marion. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Martin Izer, preceded her in death. Twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, one sister, and one half-sister, also survive. She joined the Free Methodist church as one of its charter members. Funeral services will be held in the Free Methodist church Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. C.O. Monroe will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
