Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs. May Swan, 45

Funeral services were held at the Yocom chapel here at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. May Swan, 45 years old, who took her own life by taking gas at her home at 960 Eighth street here Friday.
Rev. John M. Walters, Pastor of the Marion Methodist church, was in charge of the services and burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. The funeral was attended by many who admired and loved Mrs. Swan during her lifetime.
Mrs. Swan had been despondent ever since the death of her husband, J.W. Swan in November 1930, and her despondence is believed to have caused her to take her own life. He daughter, Miss Garnet Swan, a teacher in the Marion schools, had gone to Des Moines to spend the spring vacation. Mrs. Swan was found in the bathroom of her home about 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon by her son-in-law Frank Sadilek of Cedar Rapids.
Dr. L.E. McLaughlin, acting coroner, pronounced the death as suicide, and no inquest was held.
Mrs. Swan was born in Green Bush, Ill., the daughter of James and Sarah Davis, April 26, 1884. October 26, 1904, she was married in Abignton, Ill., to James W. Swan and they made their home in Abington and other towns where Mr. Swan was taken by his railroad work. They lived in Marion five years.
Surviving Mrs. Swan are two daughters, Garnet, of Marion and Mrs. Frank Sadilek of Cedar Rapids; three sisteres, Mrs. R??? Van Wickle and Mrs. L.C. Whiting, both of Monmouth, Ill. and Mrs. A.B. Lutz, of Abington, Ill., and one brother, DeLoss Davis, of ???burg, Ill.
