Marion Resident For 51 Years Died Monday
Wesley E. Dennis, 79, 1290 Eighth st., passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday at an Iowa City hospital following a long illness.
Mr. Dennis was born August 25, 1872 on a farm near Ely, the son of James and Axa Dennis. He had lived in Marion since June 1, 1900. He was married to Dora Margaret Mordorst on May 3, 1916. He was a carpenter at Hall Manufacturing Co. until illness forced his retirement. He was a member of the Marion Fire Department for more than forty years and he served as Chief for two years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a brother, George Edward Dennis of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Mrs. Edith Crane of Mt. Vernon. A brother, Oliver Dennis died last December in Texas. He also leaves a nephew, Willard Crane of Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Yocom-Murdoch Funeral Home by the Rev. James P. Gable and burial was in Oak Shade Cemetery. Bearers were Elmer King, Thomas Cherry, Donald Torrence, Raymond Kent, Harold Howe and Charles Sweet.
