Thursday December 16, 1920 The Marion Weekly Sentinel
John R. Ives died Monday at 3:30 in the morning at St. Luke's hospital, where he had been taken about a week before in hopes that an operation would restore him to health. But the disease proved to be much more serious than anticipated and was beyond medical aid. Mr. Ives had retired from farming just this year, because of his health, and had purchased a fine home in town.
He was a son of the late Elihu Ives and was born and reared on a farm near Marion, in 1873. A man of industry and honest dealings, he was rewarded with success in his work, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. His wife and one son, Harlie, who resides on the home farm, survives, also two brothers, Julius, who is now in Paris, France on business and Charles, of Riverside, Cal.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, from the residence 808 Eighth avenue, with the Rev. A.H. Hanscom officiating. Burial was in Oak Shade.
