George A. Schrimper Died Suddenly on Job at Monticello
The sudden death of George A. Schrimper, well-known Milwaukee railroad engineer, came as a great shock to Marion people Wednesday. WHen home Sunday he was apparently in his usual good health. Wednesday noon he was suddenly stricken while waiting in his engine cab in Monticello, and died at 12:15 before a doctor could reach him. He was working out of Monticello at the time on the run to Oxford Junction.
He was born in Marion October 20, 1884, the son of Henry and Catherine Stirm Schrimper, and was educated in the Marion schools. On June 18, 1919, he was married here to Hannah C. Johnson. To this union was born a son, Richard Johnson Schrimper, at home, a sophmore in the Marion high school. The wife and mother died here March 15, 1939.
On June 5, 1940, he was married to Bertha Roberts, a well-known Marion school teacher who survives, together with eight brothers and sisters--Mrs. Rose Rohrbacher, Mrs. Mary Charter, Charles F. Schrimper and Mrs. Clementine Fisher, all of Cedar Rapids; Laurence Schrimper of Marion; Mrs. Ida LuElla Popishil and Clinton Schrimper of Cedar Rapids, and Howard Schrimper.
The deceased lived in Marion all his life. He was a faithful and devoted member of the Marion Methodist church, and a genuine good citizen in every way, holding the respect and esteem of all. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and resided for many years in the comfortable home at 810 Tenth street.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Yocom chapel, with the Rev. A.W. Henke, pastor of the First Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be made in Oak Shade.
