Veteran Railroad Man, R.N. Widger, Died Last Friday

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon in the Yocom chapel for Robert Nicholas Widger, 83, well known railroad man, who died last Friday morning at 6 o'clock at the hom of his daughter, Mrs. Earl J. Baker, 1030 North Thirteenth street, Cedar Rapids, following an illness of three years. The Rev. W.A. Montgomery of Cedar Rapids officiated, with interment being made in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mr. Widger was born in Brixham, England, Dec. 15, 1847, spending most of his childhood and attending schools in Dublin, Ireland. For a number of years he served in Queen Victoria's navy, coming to the United States when 35 years of age.
For 45 years he had been in the employ[sic] of the Milwaukee railroad. He was married to Lucinda Davis, March 23, 1883, at Cascade, in Dubuque county, and to them were born four children: Walter, Retta, Clarence and Verdan[sic]. Walter was killed in a railway accident ten years ago.
Mr. Widger was a member of the Carmen's lodge of America.
He is survived by his widow and three children: Mrs. E.J. Baker, Cedar Rapids; Clarence, Marion and Verda, at home.
