Obituary Mrs. L.C. Hayes.
Lucy C. Barter was born in Portage county, Ohio, December 17, 1832[sic] and came to Kenwood, Iowa, at the age of 14. In 1848 she was married to Godfrey Hein who during the preparation for the civil war, gave his life for his country, leaving his young widow and six children, three of whom have died. After three years she was again married to John Crispin and six children were born, all of whom survive. In 1883 she was married to John B. Hayes, who died in 1910. She united with the Christian church as a young girl and was one of the pioneer builders of the organization in Linn county. All through a life of storm and struggle in caring for her little ones, and in the troubles of her later years Mrs. Hayes stood firm in her faith, and gave her very best in her ministry to all humanity.
