Donald L. Carpenter, 48, of 480 Ninth St., a resident of Marion 16 years and formerly of Cedar Rapids, in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a lingering illness. He was born the son of Carl R. and Mary Roubicek Carpenter on Sept. 18, 1930 at Cedar Rapids. On June 10, 1963 he was married to Sandra Kay Cisler. Mr. Carpenter served in the National Guard, and was an employee of National Oats 14 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, Grain Millers local No. 16, Teamsters Local No. 238, Marion Booster club, Marion Democratic club, Boy Scouts of America; and prior to his illness was a Webelos leader.
Surviving are his wife; two sons {private}; his mother, Mary Carpenter of Monticello; one sister, Alice Veenstra of Blalirstown; and five brothers, Frank B. Carpenter and Richard A. Carpenter of Toledo, Ohio, Arnold J. Carpenter of Marion and Howard L. Carpenter of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Marion, conducted by the Rev. John Gallagher and Rev. Louis Trzil. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery in Marion. Rosary was recited Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Murdoch chapel in Marion. Friends may if they wish, contribute to the St. Joseph's Catholic church building fund as a memorial.
