Harry L. Dole, Long School Principal In Marion, Dead
Harry L. Dole, a former resident of Marion, died Saturday morning, July 28 at Duluth, Minn., after several months of illness.
He was born May 2, 1885 at THurso, Canada, and came to the states when but a youth. He was educated at Cornell college, where he graduated in 1912, and has since followed the career of a teacher and was principal of the Marion high school from 1923 to 1931.
He was the son of William and Elizabeth Hollingworth Dole, and was married in 1921 to Nellie Young, of Van Horne, Iowa, who survives together with a daughter, Miss Gertrude Dole of VanCouver[sic], Wash. A younger son, John, died in Marion, July 23, 1928. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. R.J. Quinn of Arkansas City, Ark., Mrs. E.F. Wolf of Rochester, Minn.., Mrs. F.V. Hodges of Kansas City, MO., and Mrs. R.T. Remer of Center POint, also a brother, Alger H. Dole of Omaha, Nebr.
Mr. Dole left Marion to connect himself with the Duluth school system and was at the head of te[sic] social science department at the time of his last illness.
He was an active member of the First Methodist church of Duluth, and a member of the Minnesota Educational association. He was a past master of Marion lodge, No. 6 A.F. & A.M., and a member of Marion Chapter, No. 10, R.A.M. Mr. Dole was ever recognized as a gentleman of high character and worth.
Funeral services were held at the Yocom chapel in Mairon Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, in charge of the Rev. James P. Galbe, pastor of the Mraoin Methodist church, with the assistance of Marion lodge, No. 6. The soloist was Miss Verle Breed. The bearers were C.B. Vernon, Irving Finger, I.V. Brockman, Irvin Ford and Earl Edward s and Frank Keith, of Perry.
Burial was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
