Thursday April 8, 1940 The Marion Sentinel
Marion lost another sterling character when Peter Frederick Schultz died at 1:25 o'clock Monday afternoon at his home,1033 Seventh street, following an illness of several months.
"Pete" as he was affectionately called by young and old, was born December 1, 1868, at Reisville, Iowa, the son of John and Christine Broderson Schultz, and when just a babe moved with them to Sabula, Iowa, and was 13 years old when the family came to Marion. During most of his active years he was employed as a brick and stone mason and much of his honest work will still be rendering service long after most of the present generaion is forgotten. For the past six years he has served the city in the capacity of street commissioner, and admittedly has made the city one of the best public servants it has ever had.
He was a member of Marion lodge, No. 6, A.M. and A.M.[sic], and of the Christian church.
On October 10, 1890, he was united in marriage to Joyce Joines of this city, who survives together with three of their four children, Mrs. Maude Newman of Mairon; John W. Schultz, of Ft. Madison, and Lumir P. Schultz, of Columbia, S.C. One son, Robert, died in infancy. He also leaves one brother, Fred Schultz, and a sister, Dora Ross, both of Marion.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the Yocom chapel, with the Rev. Vernon H. Carter of the Christian church in charge, with the Masonic burial service being used at the grave in Oak Shade cemetery.
Out-of-town folk attending the funeral were Lumir P. Schultz and Fred Richardson, of Columbia, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. John Schultz, of Ft. Madison; Miss Dorothy Schultz, of Mechanicsville; Miss Jean Schultz, of Storm Lake; Mr and Mrs. V.E. Glasgow, Mrs. B. Glasgow and Mrs. Smalley of Milawukee; Miss Frances Jones, of Iowa (continued on Page ?)
