John Le Roy Scott, 85, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, and a former Le Claire resident, died Saturday after a long illness.
Born April 8, 1903, in Marvin, Mo., he married Bertha Mahan on Oct. 5, 1974, at Princeton, Iowa. She died in 1983. He farmed in the Victor and Ladora vicinities for many years. He had lived in Le Claire, where he worked as a carpenter before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1985.
Survivors include four daughters, Lucy McNeal of Cedar Rapids, Betty Shaull of Marion, June Buckley of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Nannie Wills of Burlington; three sons, Perry, Willie and John Jr., all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Ross Messerli of Hartwick; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services: Prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday in Kuba Funeral Home East. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Le Claire Cemetery, by the Rev. Harry Poling of the Le Claire Calvary Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
