John Charles Austin, 79, a former Marion resident, died Monday at University hospitals in Iowa City. He had lived in Cedar Rapids for the last five years.
He was born north of Marion on March 13, 1883. He attended Marion high school. Mr. Austin was married to Pearl Schultz in Lucas county, Ohio, on March 8, 1916. Mrs. Austin died in Chicago in 1952.
Mr. Austin was a member of Cedar Rapids lodge No. 251, BPOE.
Surviving are a son, Capt. John Williams Austin, serving with the U.S. army in Spain; four grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. A.R. Jordan of Rogers, Ark.
Services: Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Murdoch chapel, conducted by the Rev. Maurice A. Gunn. Burial: Oak Shade. Friends may call at the chapel after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
