W.H. Snell, long a resident of Marion, died Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Harry Snell, in South Eleventh street. Mr. Snell, who was 79 years of age, had been ill for two months.
He was born in Bath, N.Y., on Jan. 17, 1855, the youngest of a family of ten children, and came to Clinton in 1877. For several years he was employed as a carpenter for the Northwestern railroad, later working for 32 years as a carpenter for the Milwaukee road. Sixteen years ago he retired.
On Feb. 20, 1882, Mr. Snell was married to Ellen Granger. They moved to Marion the same year. Four children were born: Roy of Scotch Grove, Harry and Mrs. Grace Lang of Marion, and Mrs. Nellie Gantz of Sioux City.
Mr. Snell was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his widow, his children , on grandson, Edward Snell, and one brother, Peter Snell, of Bath, N.Y.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 3:30 at the home of Harry Snell, in charge of the Rev. Wm. Bridwell, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
