Lewis Weis, 85, a retired farmer and former member of the Marion City Council, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at a local nursing home following a long illness. He was born April 7, 1864 at Cedar Rapids, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Weis, and was a life long resident of Linn county. He was married on Oct. 5, 1887 at Cedar Rapids to Gertrude Lieb and they moved in 1888 to the farm 4 1/2 miles northeast of Marion that is now occupied by his son. In 1919 he retired and moved to town. He served several terms as a councilman on the City Council. He helped found and was a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Elevator. Mrs. Weis died at Marion June 17, 1927.
Mr. Weis is survived by one son Lewis. A daughter, Mrs. Gladys McCalley died June 30, 1941 and a son Frank died in infancy. He also leaves a granddaughter, Mrs. Wilma Conley of Marion....
