Hazel Elizabeth Tabor McCalley, 100, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in the care center. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Ron Lewis. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her nephews, Lloyd Fernow of Marion and Marvin Fernow of Koshkanong, Mo.; her niece Evelyn Dolfin of Santa Clara, Calif.; five great-nieces; six great-nephews; and many great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, fours sisters, Glenna Fernow, Margaret Ford, Esther Waln and Grace Court, three nieces, Maxine Neff, Betty Turbett and Margaret Machacek; and a nephew, Harold Fernow.
Hazel was born April 4, 1903, near Lost Nation, Iowa, to Andrew Delbert Tabor and Anna Zak Tabor. She was a graduate of Marion High School and of Cedar Rapids Business College. On Jan. 1, 1942, she married Park L. McCalley. He died Dec. 23, 1955. Hazel was employed for 40 years as a secretary by the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1966.
Hazel was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, a 75-year member and past matron of Marion Chapter 138 Order of Easter Star, life member and past High Priestess of Gethsemene White Shrine No. 1, charter life member and past Queen of Eu'cha-rest Temple No. 68 Daughters of the Nile.
