Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday for Mrs. Edwin Garretson, 90 years old, who died at her home at 1466 North Eleventh street, Saturday night. Rev. C. J. Biddle, pastor of the Christian church, was in charge of the services, which were held at the home and interment was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mrs. Garretson had been a resident of Linn county for more than eighty years. She had been in failing health for several years and had been bedfast for several months.
Born in Morgan county, Ohio, December 5, 1842. Angela Weeks Andrews was one of seven children. She came to Iowa with her parents in a prairie schooner, settling in Linn county June 27, 1850, living here ever since. On May 7, 1865, she was married to Edwin Garretson, who died November 28, 1916. One granddaughter, Geraldine Plummer, also preceded her in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Garretson were overseers of the Linn county home from 1882 to 1899, when they moved to Marion. Mrs. Garretson was the oldest living member of the Christian church, in which she was an active worker. She was also a member of Robert Mitchell Women's Relief corps, No. 126. Two daughters, Della Garretson and Mrs. Etta Plummer of Marion, and one sister, Mrs. Emeline Fleming of Center Point, survive. She had a host of friends who admire her sterling qualities.
