W.G. Couch of Marion, Ia., but formerly of Dixon passed away at Mount Pleasant hospital Thursday Nov. 14, 1935 at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 5 days. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Yocom chapel, at Marion, the Rev. W.E. Fisher of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial in Oak Shade cemetery by the side of his wife who preceded him in death in June, 1903. Marion lodge No. 6, A.F. and A.M. hand charge of the burial.
Wm. George Couch was born in London, England, July 9, 1865, and came with his parents to London, Ontario when he was two years old. He came to the U.S. while a boy and with his parents settled in Illinois.
In his early day Mr. Couch was in the railroad service, later being employed as foreman in the shoe factory at Dixon, Ill.
He was married to Miss Lean Eissner, Dec. 25, 1894, and to this union, one child, who died in infancy, was born.
Some years later they moved to Laurel, Nebr., and began farming, from there they moved to Linn county, Iowa, and continued farming until his health failed him when he moved to Marion.
He was a member of the Marion lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M., Marion chapter No. 10, R.A.M., and Patmos Commandery, No. 27, Knights Templar, and a charter member of Dixon Elks.
He was of a pleasant, sociable disposition, a man of good character, a loyal citizen nd [sic] a good neighbor. A special friend to orphan children as he with his good wife made a home for five of them for a number of years.
He is survived by two brothers and one sister: John Couch of Chicago; Fred Couch of Bayard, Nebr.; Mrs. Fannie Nairn, of Creston, Ia.; two half sisters, Mrs. Lottie Lite of Portland, Ore., and Miss Mae Summers of Creston, Ia.; and also two step sisters and two step brothers, Mrs. Emma Parrlott and Mrs. Mary Haines of Modesta, Calif., Will Summers of Deering, N.D., and George Summers of Kent, Wash. Dixon (Ill..) Paper.
