Thursday May 19, 1910 The Marion Sentinel
Lulu Fernow, daughter of Mrs. Ann Fernow, was born on the home farm east of Marion, Nov. 2, 1875, where she grew to womanhood. She graduated from the Marion high school in June, 1898. After graduating she spent a few years in teaching school, in which she was quite successful.
She was married to Mr. A.H. Drew, June 29, 1897. They began house-keeping in Elgin, Ill., where Mr. Drew engaged in business. Five children were born to this union--Harriet, Marjorie, Marshall, Dorothy and Donald, all of whom survive her. After four years they moved to Texas, where they lived until about a year ago. Her health failed and the doctor advised a change of climate. They removed to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mr. [sic] Drew became seriously ill and the doctor ordered an operation in Kansas City, Mo. It was thought best for her to return to her old home with the children, which she did, arriving here April 7. All that loving friends could do for her was of no avail. On the afternoon of May 14 she was called to the home above.
From childhood she loved her Savior and at the early age of nine possessed her faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian church in Marion, in which she took an active interest until after her marriage, and then she transferred her membership to Elgin, Ill., where Mr. Drew served as an elder. While living in Katy, Texas, a Cumberland Presbyterian church was organized, which she joined as a charter member. Her membership was at this place at the time she was transferred to the Great Church above.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, five children, mother, four brothers--Edward, Frederick, Wesley, Carl, and a sister, Mrs. John Crew. Also a large circle of friends, both within and out of the church. The entire family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church Monday at 2:30 P.M. Rev James Aikin Smith preached on "Her Sun Hath Gone Down While it is Yet Day," Jer. 15:9. Sh was buried in the Marion cemetery.
