FRIENDS PAY LAST TRIBUTE OF RESPECT AT GRAVE OF CHARLES LIDDLE

Old Time Engineer of Milwaukee and Former Resident of Marion Makes Last Run

Charles Liddle, a veteran engineer of the Milwaukee road, who had been a continuous member of the Brotherhood for more than forty years, and a former resident of Marion for a number of years, died at his home in Ottumwa a week ago Tuesday. The body was brought to this city, accompanied by seventy-five friends and neighbors, who came from Ottumwa in a special coach. The funeral party was met here by George Busby, associate chairman of Division No. 200 of the B. of L.E., and Undertaker Yocom, and conveyed to Oak Shade cemetery, where the services were conducted by Div. No. 538, B. of L.E. of Ottumwa.
Charles Liddle was born in Fulton, Ill., Dec. 14, 1857. On May 4, 1879, he was married to Sarah Spay of Freeport, Ill., and to this union was born five children, Mrs. Harry Conger of Mobridge, S.D., Mrs. L.J. Burrows of Marion, Harry Liddle of Correctionville, Fred Liddle of Marion and Mrs. A.C. Law of Council Bluffs. His wife passed away April 6, 1910, and a year later he was united in marriage to Mrs. Jennie Millerke, who now survives him, together with his children and five grandchildren, as well as two brothers John Liddle of Milwaukee, Wis., Wallace Liddle of Freeport, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Matt Moster of Milwaukee.
Funeral services were conducted at his home in Ottumwa, after which the body was brought here for burial.
He began his railroad career in 1873 as an engine wiper, beginning to fire in 1874, and was promoted to engineer in 1881. Jan. 6, 1884, he was initiated inton Div. 159 at Cedar Rapids, and forty years later at Ottumwa he was presented with the Honorary Badge of the order in an impressive ceremony. His record in the service of the Milwaukee railroad was a long and honored one.
