The Marion Register Wednesday April 15, 1896
A sad and fatal accident occurred on the Courtney farm five miles east of Marion, Monday morning. The little child of Jack Courtney, a grand child of Joel Courtney of this city, fell backward into a boiler of hot water, which had been set down off the stove. It was taken to Springville to Dr. Love but without avail, the child died in the evening. The child was four years of age and the eldest of Mr. Courtney's two children. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents.
