William D. Shank, a retired Milwaukee passenger conductor who came here from Oxford Junction 32 years ago, died at his home, 983 Eighth street, at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 31.
He was born at Buffalo Mills, Penn., May 2, 1863, the son of Hiram and Mary Sesiana Shank. He was married at Savanna, Ill., May 26, 1892, to Idell Warren, who survives. Their only daughter, Msr. [sic] Helen Shank Sommers, died in Marion, July 3, 1922. An only grandson, S 1/c Marion Gene Sommers, U.S.N., now at sea, was reared in the Shank home. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Rose Meyers and George Shank, both of Pearl City, Ill., and Mrs. Fern Wendt, of Rockford, Ill.
The deceased was a past chief of the Marion division No. 268, O.R.C., a member of the Masonic lodge at Oxford Junction, and of Marion chapter No. 183, O.E.S.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Yocom chapel, with the Rev. C.V.R. DeJong in charge. Masonic services are to be at Oak Shade cemetery, where burial will be made.
