FREDERICK HORN, 93, DIED TUESDAY NIGHT
---------------------------------------
Frederick M. Horn, one of the oldest men in the county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Beach, in Mount Vernon at 8:45 p.m., Tuesday, following a brief illness starting with a fall.
He was born November 19, 1847 [sic], in Bedford county, Penn., and came with his parents, John and Margaret Rider Horn , to Cedar county, Iowa, when but five years of age, coming with a party of twenty by covered wagon, of which group he was the last. He was married December 22, 1870, to Sarah Dilling at Shellsburg, Iowa, who died in 1923. He came to Linn county soon after his marriage and for many years farmed seven miles southeast of Marion.
Surviving besides his daughter, Mrs. Beach, is his son, Harry, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr Horn was a devoted member of the Methodist church, a fine type of Christian gentleman, and enjoyed fair health and the use of his faculties until his recent illness.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the Yocom chapel in Marion, with his former pastor, the Rev. Earle A. Baker, of Cedar Falls and the Rev. A. W. Henke, pastor of the local Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Shade cemetery.
