Cedar Rapids

Rex H Phillips, Jr, 71 of 2263 C St. SW, died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, in St. Luke’s Hospital after a long illness. Memorial services: 9 a.m. Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with military rites. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may register after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Carfrae and Kimberly McLane, a son, Rex G., and a sister , Mary Spore, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rex was born July 6, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rex Sr. and Margaret Minor Phillips. He married Florence Brockmeier; they were later divorced. He then married Lily M. White; they were later divorced. Rex worked for the sanitation department for the City of Cedar Rapids and later was an over-the-road semi driver for several local trucking firms. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5, VFW Post 788 and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

He served in the Army during World War II. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 788.

A memorial fund has been established.
